I'm Nick Tan, a drone operations and digital capture specialist who builds practical software tools and solutions for real-world problems.
Boiled Ocean takes its name from the old advice not to “boil the ocean” — don’t try to solve everything at once. Most of the tools here started with a much smaller question: why is this task harder than it needs to be?
I work across drone operations, GIS, 3D capture, mapping and digital workflows. A lot of the problems I run into are surprisingly practical: planning a flight, converting spatial data, inspecting a 3D model, or removing a repetitive step from a workflow.
Boiled Ocean is where I turn those problems into small, useful tools and practical solutions. I come from an industrial design and technology background, so I’m as interested in how something works for the person using it as I am in the code underneath it.
This site is part portfolio, part workshop. Everything here started with a real problem I wanted to solve, and the tools are free to use.
